This nationally celebrated day recognizes the importance of supporting local farmers, eating a healthy diet with an increase of fruits and vegetables, and fighting for food access for all. We invite the children to our booth to learn about the QUINCE fruit and bring us your coloring page so we can show them off next Saturday! Try samples of fresh quince and our delicious Quince Spread!

Difference Between Varieties

While our Pineapple Quince fruit is more fragrant than our Russian varieties, it's cooking time is less and rapidly becomes soft, actually perfect for Quince Spread (Dulce de Membrillo). So, if you are planning on making a quince dessert that calls for whole pieces, we suggest our Russian varieties.

Q.E. Brix Values Higher Than Average

Thanks to the technical assistance of Earth Fort, we have identified the brix value of our Russian quince to be just over 15. What this means in lay terms is that our quince fruit is higher than the average quince in natural sugar content, meaning that it is actually edible raw without adding additional sugar. In fact, cooking the quince in water produces a wonderful syrup that is thick (natural pectin) and delightful, especially when added to other natural fruit juices or fruit smoothies (we like papaya!).

New Recipe Quince Spread With Reduced Sugar

In an effort to reduce our sugar consumption, we have modified our recipe for quince spread to reduce the amount of organic sugar by 25% while still keeping the rich reddish color and firm texture. The result is also more concentration of fresh fruit in our 8oz (225g.) jars.
